Dream in Green, a Miami non-profit and two-year winner of the Greater Miami Chamber’s Sustainable South Florida Award, will be celebrating 6 years of environmental education in South Florida at their annual Green Innovator Awards Ceremony and Living the Dream fundraiser on Friday, April 13, 2012, 8 p.m. – 11 p.m. This milestone gala will be hosted by the eco-fabulous Palms Hotel & Spa in Miami Beach, FL.
The event brings together South Florida’s green community to showcase the winners of Dream in Green’s 2011 Green Innovator Awards which exemplify green innovation and leadership. The Award Ceremony will be emceed by WPLG weathercaster, Trent Aric, WPLG’s weathercaster, who won an Emmy for his riveting climate change reporting.
‘Living the Dream’ marks the 6th Anniversary of Dream in Green’s flagship program, the award winning Green Schools Challenge, which is currently serving 165 K-12 schools in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. The Green Schools Challenge fosters green behaviors in K-12 students by engaging them in saving energy and water, recycling and waste reduction, as well as other activities related to green buildings, green transportation and green careers at school and at home. Last year, the program was implemented in one-hundred and five schools and saved the School District $1.4 million in school energy costs while also reducing carbon emissions by 1.5 million pounds. This year, the Green Schools Challenge reaches over 75,000 students whose efforts, we expect, will beat all records.
All proceeds from ‘Living the Dream’ will be used to underwrite further expansion of theGreen Schools Challenge program in Miami-Dade and Broward.
